Salvador Dali
The life and work of the Figueres-born artist Salvador Dalí ( 1904-1989 ) is condensed into three
spaces.
The Theatre-Museum, in Figueres.
It boasts a spectacular and emblematic metallic
dome, work of the architect Pérez Piñero, restaurated in 1998. The exterior of the buildings joined to the museum are decorated
in the "Dalí style" with enormous eggs on the top, the same as the Galatea tower, (the old Gorgot tower of the old city walls),
where Salvador Dalí spent the last years of his life.It is the most visited museum in Spain, after the Prado in Madrid.
The second space is Portlligat House-Museum, in Cadaqués.
Portlligat, where you will find Salvador Dalís house, with big eggs on the top, which was the
divine surrealists residence and refuge of inspiration. At the moment, one can visit the House-Museum at Portlligat.
The is the Púbol Castle, in the township of La Pera, which Dalí gave as a gift to his beloved
Gala. Medieval Púbol castle-during the 1970s the residence of Dali's wife and in the early-1980s his own -was
opened to the public in 1996 as the GALA DALÍ CASTLE HOUSE-MUSEUM. Inside are paintings and drawings Dalí gave Gala to adorn
the castle, elephant scuplptures Dalí installed in the garden, and a collection of Gala's haute couture dresses, as well as
the furniture and innumerable objects Gala and Dalí used to decorate the castle.
